Claribel College, Jamaica
The MDP Program at Claribel College.
Responding to the need for a new cadre of development practitioners in the Caribbean to address regional challenges such as climate change, food security, non-communicable diseases, disaster risk management, energy costs, and biodiversity loss, Claribel College launched its MDP program in September 2022. Former SAAC president Mr. Emmanuel Ejewule welcomed and shared his MDP experiences with the inaugural cohort of seven students during orientation activities.
The MDP at Claribel College is a one-year accelerated hybrid program for individuals with at least two years of working experience. The interdisciplinary curriculum covers core competencies in the health sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, and management. Students enroll in 36 credits and participate in a capstone project. Current capstone projects include orchid habitat conservation in Jamaica, stemming non-communicable diseases in Grenada, and the impacts of charcoal burning in Jamaica.
Claribel College is in Portland, Jamaica, and is the first to offer an MDP program in the Caribbean. For more information about the program, please contact
