The Program
The Regis Master of Sustainable Development Practice (MSDP) is an international development focused degree program developed in line with the Agenda 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) frameworks. Our curriculum unique because it is interdisciplinary! Students learn about sustainable development as they study health, climate science, environment, economics, food systems, among other key topics in development. They also learn important nonprofit/NGO leadership and management skills necessary to lead these agencies with efficiency and effectiveness. We apply classroom theory to real-world situations in integrated courses and field immersions with students from across the globe collaborating in virtual-visual and online classrooms. Graduates are challenged to innovate to make the future more equitable and sustainable.
Educational Impact
Regis’ MSDP program provides an innovative, cross-disciplinary approach to solve the world’s biggest issues. We prepare our students to be facilitators of holistic development solutions rather than experts in a single discipline. It also prepares them to lead development agencies especially Nonprofits or NGOs. Regis MSDP graduates are committed to social justice and service and have the ability to:
- Collaborate effectively with a variety of development actors
- Approach development from an integrated, interdisciplinary and culturally sensitive perspective
- Engage communities in participatory and empowering ways
- Understand the project management cycle
- Think critically and reflectively about development from a global perspective
- Navigate economic, political, and social complexity as servant-leaders
- Provide effective and efficient management/leadership of nongovernmental organizations
Resources
Our 2-year curriculum is designed with a busy working adult in mind. Once enrolled, students move through the program both as individuals and as members of a learning community which support both cross-disciplinary collaboration and cohesive work around sectoral, geographic, and organizational focus.
Together with a dedicated office team to answer any student questions and concerns, we offer,
- A dynamic practitioner faculty and staff of international development with many years of direct development experience.
- Access to the Global MDP Association Global Classroom resources and network for all students and alumni.
- Through the U.S. Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows Program, the Regis MSDP offers scholarships to Returning Peace Corps Volunteers, as well as qualified community and development leaders with whom they have served
- The Students Alumni and Advisory Council (SAAC) of GAM supplies a professional platform for job opportunities, networking, and promotion of the MDP brand to employers, and creates forums for discussion, global projects, and idea sharing among students
- The Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, of which Regis University is a member, provides 24/7 online access to reference librarians and library resources to all Regis MSDP students. Because of this affiliation, students examine the integrative educational principles of the Jesuits, who have pursued holistic development for nearly 500 years
